ALBANY, NY–
On Tuesday, March 22nd at 11 a.m., nonprofit organizations and elected officials will gather at the State Capitol to voice their support for establishing
a $15
minimum wage for all New Yorkers.
The organizations will call on their
opponents to stop using nonprofits as a scapegoat for maintaining the
status quo of low wages. Additionally, these nonprofits
will ask legislators to make the necessary investment to fund this wage
increase for nonprofit organizations operating under state contracts
and Medicaid reimbursements, in order to ensure that they can recruit
and retain quality staff and avoid a decline
in service levels and quality.
The
#15andFunding Campaign, led by the Federation of Protestant Welfare
Agencies, the Fiscal Policy Institute, and the Human Services Council,
is supported by more than 80 organizations across
New York State.
Those expected to attend include Wayne Ho, Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies; Michelle Jackson, Human Services Council; Ronald Deutsch, Fiscal Policy Institut; NY State Assemblyman Marcos Crespo; NY State Assemblyman Luis Sepulveda; NY State Assemblyman Phil Steck; NY State Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara; NY State Assemblyman Walter Mosley; Day Care Council of New York; United Neighborhood Houses and Urban Pathways, to name a few.
