A House oversight
subcommittee held a hearing on U.S. preparedness for potential
biological attacks, pandemics and infectious disease outbreaks. Among
the witnesses was Dr. Anthony Fauci,
the director of the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious
Diseases. They discussed some of the potential health security threats,
along with vaccine development and the management of the Strategic
National Stockpile of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies that could be
used during a public health emergency. Rep. Gregg Harper (R-MS) chairs
the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and
Investigations.
