Starting November 16 and running until November 18, the Lapidus Center for the Historical
Analysis of Transatlantic Slavery will present its inaugural
conference,"Reckoning with Slavery: New Directions in the History,
Memory, Legacy, and Popular Representations of Enslavement".
The event will be conducted at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, 515 Malcolm X Boulevard in New York.
Thirty-one scholars from the U.S. and other countries will present new
research on abolition, Civil War and Reconstruction, gender and
sexuality, archives, memory and identity, photography, the search for
freedom, and public history.
