ALBANY — With standardized student testing starting this week, the
powerful state teachers union is aggressively reminding parents that
kids can opt out.
The New York State United Teachers union has bought space on a dozen
billboards across upstate to deliver the message. It’s also buying bus
shelter ads and looking for billboards downstate.
NYSUT also has a fact sheet on the opt-out issue for parents.
“We believe it’s important for parents to know their rights, including
their right to opt their children out of state tests,” said union
spokesman Carl Korn.
