House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) joined the American Enterprise Institute
for a discussion on political philosophy and constitutional principles
in an age of growing populism and identity politics. Speaker Ryan talked
about how new media and technology have contributed to a rise in
tribalism, which he said runs counter to the more traditional Republican
beliefs in classical liberalism. He also advocated for a return to
civil society in contrast to the prevailing “zero-sum” mentality now
prominent in American politics.
