Although I live in Connecticut now, I'm a Bronx kid who will always think of myself as a New Yorker.
Sadly, it feels like every New Yorker I've met knows someone killed on 9/11 or a first responder who gave everything he or she had on that day and in the days and weeks that followed.
It might sound like a cliché, but it's true: Those first responders are true New York heroes, and many of them continue to pay a price for their selfless sacrifices nearly two decades later.
NYPD Capt. Douglas Greenwood, a close friend and colleague for more than 25 years, was one of those heroes.
