UCCA President Holds High-Level Meetings in Kyiv

UCCA President Andriy Futey held a series of high-level meetings in Ukraine’s capital from January 22 through 29.  During his working visit to Kyiv, he met with Prime Minister Groysman, Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin, Acting Minister of Health Dr. Ulana Suprun, Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov, Minister of Culture Yevhen Nyshchuk, Minister of Education Liliya Hrynevych, Head of the Security Service of Ukraine Vasyl Hrytsak, Senior Officials in the Administration of the President of Ukraine, Member of Parliament Andriy Levus, Head of the Svoboda Party Oleh Tyahnybok, former Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatseniuk, the Mayor of Ternopil Serhiy Nadal, Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine George Kent, high-ranking religious hierarchy and representatives of various NGOs. 
 

During his meetings, Futey discussed Russia’s continuing hybrid war against Ukraine, the need to strengthen sanctions against Russia until it de-occupies Crimea and fully removes its military and weapons from eastern Ukraine, and the idea of a UN peacekeeping mission in Donbas. He also devoted particular attention to the need to implement comprehensive reforms to combat corruption and institute judicial reforms. Futey also discussed, in detail, the need for swift implementation of the recently passed and signed into law by President Poroshenko Medical reform legislation. 

The issue of Ukrainian-Polish relations was also discussed throughout his meetings. Of utmost importance was coordinating a united message and the continued strengthening of the US-Ukraine strategic partnership. 
 

While in Kyiv, Mr. Futey also held a very productive meeting with Ksana Nechyporenko, Director of GoGlobal in Ukraine. The initiative of the social organization GoGlobal is aimed at promoting foreign languages (English) learning and development of a volunteer movement in Ukraine, as well as facilitating intercultural dialogue and public diplomacy. As a partner organization of GoGlobal, UCCA calls on Ukrainian-Americans to consider volunteering in Ukraine, teaching English to some 80,000 Ukrainian schoolchildren.
 

Minister Hrynevych thanked UCCA for supporting the volunteer initiative and stressed the importance of learning the English language and the impact that volunteers can have on the young generations in Ukraine. Mr. Futey discussed the upcoming 100th Anniversary of the Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus of North America with Culture Minister Nyshchuk, including the "Kapelia's" proposed tour plans in the Fall of 2018. He also met with family members of the Community Organization “Families of the Heroes Nebesnoyi Sotnyi” (Heavenly Hundred) to hear their concerns and issues.
 

In addition to his meetings, on January 23, Futey had the honor to extend warmest birthday greetings on behalf of  UCCA and the Ukrainian-American community to Patriarch Filaret of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church - Kyiv Patriarchate. 

On January 29, Futey attended a solemn Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Kruty with President Poroshenko and other Ukrainian government officials at the Kruty Memorial at Askolda Mohyla. Along with President Poroshenko, he laid flowers on behalf of the Ukrainian-American community for the fallen heroes, and paid his respects at the grave of Mark Paslawsky.
 

UCCA External Affairs Committee member Borys Potapenko, and the Head of the Center of U.S.-Ukrainian Relations  (CUSUR) Washington, D.C. Office - Mykola Hryckowian -  participated in some of the discussions held in Kyiv.

На протязі тижня від 22-29 січня, Президент УККА Андрій Футей провів ряд засідань у столиці України.  Під час робочої поїздки до Києва він зустрівся з прем'єр-міністром Гройсманом, міністром Закордонних Справ Павлом Клімкіним, виконуючим обов'язки міністра Охорони Здоров'я д-р Уляною Супрун, міністром Внутрішніх Справ Арсенієм Аваковим, міністром Культури Євгеном Нищуком, міністром Освіти Лілією Гриневич, головою Служби Безпеки України Василем Грицаком а також вищими посадовими особами з адміністрації Президента України, Народним Депутатом Андрієм Левусь, керівником партії «Свобода» Олегом Тягнибоком, колишнім прем'єр-міністром України Арсенієм Яценюком, посадником міста Тернопіль Сергієм Надаль, заступником голови Місії Посольства США Джорджом Кент, високопоставленими релігійними ієрархами та представниками різних не-урядових організацій. 

Під час своїх зустрічей, Футей обговорив триваючу гібридну війну проти України, необхідність посилення санкцій проти Росії так довго, аж поки Росія не вийде з Криму і повністю виведе своїх військових і зброю із Східної України. Обговорювалась теж ідея миротворчої місії ООН на Донбасі. Футей приділив особливу увагу потребі реалізації реформи для боротьби з корупцією та введення судової реформи. Він також обговорив необхідність негайного запровадження законодавства медичної реформи, нещодавно прийнятого і підписаного президентом України. Питання українсько-польських відносин були у центрі усіх його зустрічей. Але найважливішою точкою було продовження стратегії на зміцнення американсько-українського стратегічного партнерства.

Перебуваючи у Києві, Андрій зустрівся і мав дуже продуктивну зустріч з Kсаною Нечипоренко, директором GoGlobal в Україні. Головне завдання соціяльної організації GoGlobal спрямоване на поширення навчання іноземних мов, зокрема англійської, розвитку добровольного руху в Україні, а також сприяння міжкультурного діялогу та громадської дипломатії. УККА, як партнер організації GoGlobal, закликає американців українського походження стати добровольцями цього літа, викладати англійську мову для 80-ти тисяч українських школярів.

Міністер Гриневич подякувала УККА за підтримку цієї думки і вказала на важливість вивчення англійської мови і впливу, який добровольці можуть мати на молоде покоління України.  Міністер Нищук та президент УККА обговорили плянування 100-ої річниці Української Капели Бандуристів Північної Америки ім. Т. Г. Шевченка, та їх пропонованого турне восени цього року. Футей також зустрівся з членами Громадської Організації «РОДИНА ГЕРОЇВ НЕБЕСНОЇ СОТНІ», щоб почути їх стурбованість і питання. Від імені УККА та українсько-американської громади, Андрій Футей привітав з днем народження Патріярха Філарета (Українська Православна Церква Київського Патріярхату).

 

29 січня президент УККА разом із президентом України Петром Порошенко та іншими урядовцями взяв участь в урочистому відзначенні 100-ої річниці битви під Крутами, яке відбулося при Пам’ятному Хресті на Асколдовій могилі. Від імени української громади США Футей поклав квіти поляглим героям Крут та вшанував пам’ять Марка Паславського на його могилі.

 

Член комітету зовнішніх справ УККА Борис Потапенко та директор Центру Відносин США Україна у Вашингтоні - Микола Грицковян - брали участь у деяких офіційніих зустрічах та розмовах що відбулися в Києві.
