Brian Benjamin, the Democratic candidate for the Senate seat vacated last month by Bill Perkins, pledged in a statement released Monday to join the mainline Democratic conference.
Brian Benjamin, the Democratic candidate for the Senate seat vacated last month by Bill Perkins, pledged in a statement released Monday to join the mainline Democratic conference.
Not lost on Senate Democrats: Benjamin’s likely election would give
the chamber 32 enrolled Democrats when taking into account the
eight-member Independent Democratic Conference and Brooklyn Sen. Simcha Felder, a Democrat who is a member of the Republican conference in the
Senate.
“I look forward to joining the Senate Democratic Conference and
fighting for the working men and women of New York,” Benjamin said in
the statement.
