Voters Embrace Nearly All of Cuomo’s Agenda, Siena Poll Finds

ALBANY — New Yorkers overwhelmingly support most of the proposals in Gov. Andrew Cuomo's agenda for the year, according to a poll released Monday by the Siena College Research Institute.

Siena surveyed registered voters last week on 14 policy items backed by the governor, finding that voters backed 12 of them by significant margins.

Nothing was more popular than his suggestion that the state spend $2 billion on water infrastructure. The proposal won the support of 89 percent of respondents, while 8 percent opposed it. It was popular among all demographic and regional groups.

Cuomo's proposals to add “Buy American” preferences to state procurement practices, legalize ride-hailing services throughout the state, renovate John F. Kennedy International Airport, increase the child care tax credit, limit lawmakers’ salaries, establish term limits and cover the costs of many SUNY and CUNY students also enjoyed the support of 60 percent or more of respondents.
