A New York Daily News Exclusive
The family of a Bronx man — who died after he was Tasered twice by an
NYPD sergeant — has filed a $10 million notice of claim that they intend
to sue the cop for excessive force, the Daily News learned.
“My brother was a great guy. My brother wasn’t a fighter, he wasn’t
violent. He had a great deal of respect for police,” said Mildred
Galarza, whose brother Ariel Galarza, 49, was holding a bottle of hot
sauce when a neighbor thought he was an emotionally disturbed person
with a knife and called police.
Ariel Galarza was zapped twice by NYPD Sgt. William Melrose on Nov. 2 at
his Mayflower Ave. home, went into cardiac arrest and later died at the
hospital.
