The election of Donald Trump will doubtlessly have a trickle down
policy impact here in New York, and this letter from western New York
GOP Sen. Robert Ortt is an example of that.
Following Trump’s electoral victory, college campuses across the
state, as well as nation, moved to enact sanctuary policies, which was
seen as a remonstrance against the president-elect’s hard line on
undocumented immigrants.
But Ortt in a letter to SUNY trustees, notes that 2017 will start
with a Republican controlled Senate, House and President who could
reverse outgoing President Barack Obama’s 2012 Deferred Action for
Childhood Arrivals which has essentially halted potential deportations
of students brought here — legally or not — when they were young and
under their parents’ or guardians’ control.
