Rev. Sharpton Comments on President Obama's Final SOTU

(NEW YORK, NY) – The following is a statement from Rev. Al Sharpton, President and Founder of the National Action Network on President Obama’s final State of the Union Address:

“The President showed again last night why he is an unparalleled leader in the history of our country. His continued advocacy to protect more children from the scourge of guns and to fix the broken criminal justice system reflect foundational priorities for the Black community in America – and we look forward to hearing more about those issues in the year ahead.

For seven years President Obama has fought to bring change, from the Affordable Care Act to responsibly restoring America’s position as a world leader, and his accomplishments are vast. There is much more work to be done, and it is encouraging to see the aggressive agenda he has laid out for the last year of his administration. As the President said, in this election year our political discourse must reflect the goodness and optimism that are essential to the future of our country – we can only hope that his successor carries on President Obama’s legacy.”
