For a half-century, the New York Urban League has presented the Frederick Douglass Medallion to individuals and organizations that have contributed in a wide variety of ways to the causes of social justice, education and equality. Since that time the dinner has continued to honor individuals and companies who use their platforms in business, the arts, entertainment and sports to champion racial equality and social justice for all.
In 2010 the Ann S. Kheel Award was added to the event named after the event’s founder and long-time NYUL board member and benefactor.
