Immigrations
and Customs Enforcement drastically stepped up arrests in New York City
in the eight months after President Trump was sworn in, according to a
City Hall analysis.
Arrests by ICE in what the federal agency considers the New York City area — which includes several counties north of the city — increased by more than 65% in 2017, compared with the same period in 2016, according to the Mayor's Office of Immigration Affairs.
Arrests
by ICE of people with no criminal convictions increased by 225% in the
New York City area in the eight months following the inauguration, the
city said.
