Nearly two months ago, floodwaters ravaged Hoosick Falls. The damage is still obvious.
So Michael Hickey has a question: Why isn't the state doing more to help?
Hickey, 38, is the former Hoosick Falls trustee who discovered
contamination of the village water supply and helped convince the state
to take the problem seriously. Now, he is again standing up for his
hometown.
On Monday, Hickey gave me a tour of the flood damage. We walked
through a gorgeous church that has been vacant since water rushed into
its basement. We walked past empty homes and apartment buildings.
We
visited a business that hasn't reopened.
No, Hoosick Falls isn't Houston.
But the flood damage is significant for a village that has taken
economic and spiritual blows and is struggling to return to normalcy.
Many residents still don't trust the water, now filtered. Many still
worry about long-term implications for their health.
