A police officer was fatally shot while responding to a call about a suspicious person in central Georgia, officials said.
The shooting took place in the city of Eastman at around 9:30 p.m. Saturday night.
Officer Tim Smith was shot and killed after
exiting his vehicle while responding to the call, according to Special
Agent Scott Whitley.
The suspect fled the scene and remains on the
loose, Whitley said, adding that officials are appealing to the public
for information.
He said the investigation was ongoing.
