The
Vice President spoke today with Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo
Djukanovic. The Vice President congratulated the Prime Minister on
NATO’s membership invitation to Montenegro,
and emphasized that Montenegro’s invitation demonstrates that NATO’s
door remains open to those countries that undertake the reforms
necessary to meet NATO’s requirements and contribute to the security of
the Alliance. The Vice President and Prime Minister
agreed that Montenegro’s NATO membership will be a significant
milestone in integrating the Balkans into Euro-Atlantic institutions and
contribute to stability, security, and prosperity in the Balkans. The
Vice President expressed his confidence in Montenegro’s
ability to continue to build public support and undertake the reforms
necessary to complete the NATO accession process.
