WASHINGTON,
DC – On Thursday, December 3, the White House and the Department of
Justice will host a convening with federal and state-wide officials,
advocates and academics to discuss criminal justice system practices,
such as fees and fines imposed by local jurisdictions and fixed money
bail, that contribute to the cycle of poverty and create significant
barriers to reentry. This event builds on the
steps the Administration has taken to address the vicious cycle of
poverty and incarceration that traps many Americans and weakens too many
communities, and the President’s continued commitment to criminal justice reform.
The convening will be live streamed on www.whitehouse.gov/live.
