Vice
President Joe Biden met today with Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar
Vucic. The Vice President noted the strategic significance of Serbia’s
efforts to promote regional
reconciliation in the Balkans, including its advancement of the
EU-facilitated dialogue with Kosovo. The Vice President and Prime
Minister also discussed Serbia’s process of integration with the
European Union, which both leaders agreed would ensure long-term
stability and prosperity for Serbia and the wider region. The Vice
President welcomed Serbia’s steadfast efforts to cope with an
unprecedented refugee and migration crisis, and pledged to examine what
additional support the United States could provide. The
two leaders also discussed Serbia’s implementation of needed economic
reforms, and the importance of creating a positive business climate to
attract future U.S. investment in Serbia. Finally, the Vice President
and Prime Minister also discussed energy security
and a number of rule of law cases.
