Died in Landstuhl, Germany from Wounds Suffered in Sperwan Village, Afghanistan
Governor Andrew Cuomo has directed that flags on
state government buildings be flown at half-staff on Thursday, December 20,
2012 in honor of a Rochester soldier who died December 13 of wounds suffered in
Afghanistan on December 9.
Army Staff Sgt. Nicholas J. Reid died in Landstuhl, Germany from wounds suffered in Sperwan Village, Afghanistan when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.
Read was assigned to the 53rd Ordnance Company
(Explosive Ordnance Disposal) of the 3rd Ordnance Battalion (Explosive Ordnance
Disposal) based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state.
“Along with all New Yorkers, I mourn the death of Staff Sgt. Reid and extend my condolences to his family, friends and fellow soldiers," Governor Cuomo said.
"We will remember his sacrifice and his
dedication to our nation."
