Statement from Governor Andrew Cuomo on the Passing of Daniel Inouye
“I was saddened to hear of the passing of
Senator Daniel Inouye who throughout his long career in public service broke
barriers while fighting for a safer, fairer America. With his passing, the
Senate, the people of Hawaii, and our country have lost a public servant who
served this nation first as young man volunteering as a medic during the attack
on Pearl Harbor, later as a soldier on the front lines of World War II for
which he earned a Medal of Honor, and finally as an elected representative. On
behalf of all New Yorkers, I send my thoughts and condolences to his family,
friends, and colleagues in the Senate.”
