South Sudan has one of the lowest literacy rates in the world, as only about a quarter of its people can read and write. Decades of civil war meant few people had the chance to go to school. The re-opening of South Sudan's main university means this young nation will benefit from a new generation of graduates. With one of the lowest adult literacy rates in the world, it will need them.
