Seeing Is Believing: Women Direct is an in-depth investigation into the challenges faced by women directors and the tools they use to overcome them. The film focuses on the journeys of four articulate filmmakers - Lesli Linka Glatter (EP/Director Homeland), Sarah Gavron (Suffragette), Li Lu (There is a New World Somewhere) and Naima Ramos Chapman (HBO’s Random Acts of Flyness) - who provide a wonderfully eclectic and informative mix of perspectives. The film’s central subjects are honest without complaining, direct without blaming, and optimistic about change. They share valuable insights into how they became directors and discuss what steps are required to ensure more women are given the opportunity to work at the highest levels of the film industry. ~ St Louis Film Festival.

Women Direct Newsletter: Life in New York, Finding Your Hustle and More!

Hi friends!

Life in New York is so different from life in Los Angeles. Yes, for all of those obvious reasons you may be thinking, but there is just something in the air in this city that makes you feel like anything is possible. I like this quote by writer Roy Blount Jr., "New York walking isn't exercise; it's continually showing, make-your-own movie." It's so true!

So I've been here in NYC working on a new play that I am also filming called Paint Made Flesh that I introduced to you in the previous #WomenDirect Newsletter! It's so much work but so much fun...

We're also gearing up to head to the Soho International Film Festival to screen Butterflies on June 16th!

Women Direct Newsletter: Emmy Recap, New Project, Awards and More!

Cady McClain's documentary "Seeing is Believing: Women Direct" won the Audience Award for Best Feature at the SOHO International Film Festival in New York City. The short version won a Jury Award in the Best Documentary category at the Newport Beach Film Festival.

The following statement was provided by the Emmy-winning actress.

Hi friends!

Where has the time gone? It's already May and so much has happened since sending out the last #WomenDirect Newsletter.

First, yes, that is the amazing Kimberly Pierce, who directed the film "Boys Don't Cry" (among others). It was my honor and privilege to interview her for our doc Seeing is Believing: Women Direct.

Okay now on to the silly stuff.

We had an awesome time at the Daytime Emmy Awards celebrating my nomination for Outstanding Directing of a Digital Series! Woot! While we didn't take home the statue, we ran into some old friends, met some new friends - and best of all - had some great laughs!

Now that the Emmy's are over, I've headed to the East Coast to attend several film festivals, one being the Philadelphia Independent Film Festival. That's where our film “Butterflies” won Best Short Film AND Best Actress in a Short Film! WOW! We couldn't be more excited! Congrats to the talented Carlotta Summers who wrote, starred in, and produced "Butterflies" with me... and to all our amazing cast and crew!! See a photo from the event below in the "Upcoming Events" section.

'Seeing is Believing: Women Direct' Wins Major Film Festival Award

The 60 minute version of “Seeing is Believing: Women Direct’ won the AUDIENCE AWARD for Best Feature at the SOHO International Film Festival.

"All My Children" Star Provides an Update on Her Groundbreaking Project

The following was submitted by director, producer and artist Cady McClain.

As some of you know, I’ve been working really hard on this documentary series called “Seeing is Believing: Women Direct,” all about women who direct film and television. It’s been a constant inspiration (and perspiration) to shoot, interview, and then edit these interviews with amazing women directors (who we will someday refer to as just “directors” I am SURE). If you’ve made it to one of our festival screenings, I think you might agree that their stories are pretty uplifting!

I could spend all day working on this project, but I decided that if I were going to be a director myself, then directing was what was going to have to get busy doing! I knew I needed to do it to give me the insight to create the documentary properly, but I also had to make sure that I kept growing creatively. So over the last two years while shooting over 50 interviews with women directors of all walks of life, I’ve also shot….

…two different productions of “Venice the Series” for which I was thrilled to be a recipient of an Emmy nomination!
