Seven organizations have received awards totaling $982,000 for the Operational and Support for AIDS Housing program. The funds will be used to provide services and operational support for projects funded through the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance's Homeless Housing and Assistance Program that house homeless and formerly homeless individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS.
"This funding will help provide the critical support needed to help New Yorkers affected by HIV/AIDS live full, active lives with a safe place to call home," Governor Cuomo said. "This administration will continue the fight not only to ensure the most vulnerable among us have access to decent and affordable housing, but to end the AIDS epidemic in New York once and for all."
Funding for the Operational and Support for AIDS Housing program allows contractors to meet the special support services needs of residents and cover maintenance and operating expenses. It is used for costs associated with personnel, supplies, utilities, consultants, travel, equipment, contractual obligations, maintenance needs and rental subsidies. The Operational and Support for AIDS Housing program funding also allows for recreational activities, tutoring for school-aged children, substance abuse counseling and greater awareness of how good nutrition improves the quality of life.
"We are working to address the issue of homelessness across the State, and this funding will help to ensure housing options for those with HIV and AIDS," said Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul. "The nearly $1 million in funding will provide support and services to make sure individuals and families with HIV/AIDS have the resources they need to live healthy and fulfilling lives. In New York we're also investing in research and programs to combat the AIDS epidemic and ensure the health and safety of all New Yorkers."
