ALBANY — With tensions flaring between Senate Republicans and Gov.
Cuomo, the GOP says it won’t be business as usual anymore when it comes
to confirming the governor’s appointments.
Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan (R-Suffolk County) sent a letter
last week to Cuomo counsel Alphonso David alerting him that the Senate
will no longer rush through last-minute appointments sent up by Cuomo at
the end of the legislative session.
Instead, the Senate, which has confirmation powers, will break the
appointments into two tiers. The first will be people nominated for paid
or policy-making positions, and the second will be those getting nods
for unpaid or nonpolicy-making posts.
