Women across Poland took to the streets wearing black as a sign of
mourning for their reproductive rights. Rights they say are under threat
from the ruling conservative Law and Justice party. Last week the
parliament tabled a proposal to increase access to abortions and also
began work on legislation that would ban abortion of fetuses with
severe deformities. Critics say it would amount to a near-total abortion
ban in Poland, whose abortion laws are already among the most
restrictive in Europe.
