NAN, Civil Rights Groups to Hold New York City Speaker Candidate Forum at House of Justice


 
New York, NY - The National Action Network (NAN), in conjunction with the NAACP, the New York Urban League, the Hispanic Federation and other leading civil rights and advocacy organizations across New York, will hold a New York City Council Speaker Candidates Forum, entitled “ The Justice Forum”, on Tuesday, November 28.

The forum will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will be held at the National Action Network's House of Justice Auditorium, 106 West 145th Street and Malcolm X Boulevard.

Leading candidates in the 2018 New York City  Council Speaker’s race will be in attendance and include: New York City Councilmember Robert Cornegy, Councilmember Cory Johnson, Councilmember Mark Levine, Councilmember Donovan Richards, Councilmember Ydannis Rodriguez, Councilmember Ritchie Torres, Councilmember Jimmy Van Bramer, and Councilmember Jumaane Williams.

The forum is also part of  NAN’s “Gorgeous Mosaic Candidates Series,” a number of forums NAN will sponsor around the country in honor of former Mayor David Dinkins’ favorite description of New York City -- “'I see New York as a gorgeous mosaic of race and religious faith, of national origin and sexual orientation.”

The forum will have three sections: The first will encompass questions from the press, including questions from the Amsterdam News, the Bronx Free Press, and the Manhattan Free Press.

The second section will be questions from the forum’s sponsors, including the New York Urban League, the New York State NAACP, MPAC (Mobilizing Preachers and Communities), The Northern Manhattan Coalition for Immigrant Rights, the Community Service Society of New York, the New York Immigration Coalition, and the Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies.

The final section will include questions by the audience, in conjunction with the NAN youth huddle.
