A
New York City police officer has been indicted on charges that he
patronized a 15-year-old girl for prostitution and made videos of her
performing sex acts, the Bronx district attorney’s office announced on
Tuesday.
The
officer, Raul Olmeda, 40, was suspended without pay and stripped of his
gun and badge after he was arrested at his home in the Bronx around
6:30 a.m. by officers from the Police Department’s Internal Affairs
Bureau, the authorities said.
Officer
Olmeda was indicted on 15 counts of sexually motivated felony, the top
charge, five counts of third-degree rape and other charges, officials
said. He entered a plea of not guilty at an arraignment on Tuesday
afternoon before Justice Steven Barrett of Bronx Supreme Court and was
held on $250,000 bail. If convicted of the top charge, he would face up
to 15 years in prison.
“They’re
obviously very serious charges,” said Stuart London, a lawyer for the
officer, who said he was “optimistic” that his client would eventually
make bail. “My client vehemently denies the allegations.”
