The following statement was submitted today by National Security Council spokesperson Ned Price.
The
United States welcomes the news that the Republic of Korea (ROK) and
Japan have signed a General Security of Military Information Agreement
(GSOMIA). This agreement will allow the ROK and Japan, two of our
closest allies in the region, to significantly strengthen bilateral, and
with us, trilateral cooperation on deterring and defending against the
North Korean threat. The United States will continue
to pursue efforts toward the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula,
including implementation of U.N. Security Council resolutions, in close
coordination with our allies in the Asia Pacific.
