'Champion's Day' at the Great New York State Fair Will Honor Maine-Endwell Little League Team

The Great New York State Fair will hold a special celebration in honor of the Maine-Endwell Little League team, which completed an undefeated season this past weekend by winning the Little League World Series. The Governor declared Thursday, September 1 “Champions Day” at the Fair in honor of the team, which will be congratulated for its victory at a special ceremony on Chevy Court. Free tickets to the Fair are available to members of the Maine-Endwell community to take part in the celebration. The Maine-Endwell team is the first New York team to win the Little League World Series since 1964.

The young players of the Maine-Endwell Little League Team represent the very best of our state, and we are so proud of them for bringing a world championship home to New York for the first time in over 50 years,” Governor Cuomo said. “The team deserves not only our praise, but a day at the Fair dedicated to celebrating their success and the entire Maine-Endwell community.”

As part of I Love NY’s special effort to bring more New Yorkers to the State Fair, free admission tickets to the Fair will be distributed in the Maine-Endwell area through local outlets. Maine-Endwell students and staff may pick up tickets at the District Office. Members of the community may pick up tickets at the six Express Mart convenience stores in the area. Tickets will be available beginning Wednesday morning. If additional distribution locations are secured, they will be announced through the Fair’s social media outlets.

In addition to winning the championship, the Maine-Endwell team was also awarded the Sportsmanship Award. The team will travel to and from the Fair Thursday afternoon in charter vehicles generously provided by Shafer’s Tour and Charter of Endicott. They will serve as Grand Marshals of the Special Day Parade at 6:00 p.m., enjoy a catered dinner, and be celebrated on the stage at Chevy Court prior to the 8:00 p.m. concert by Three Days Grace. They will then enjoy the Fair and will have unlimited ride wristbands from the Wade Shows Midway.
