Take Charge and Defend Yourself Against Sexual Assault - Free Training Session

In recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, State Senator James Sanders Jr. is hosting a free defense training where you will learn from experts how to protect yourself from an attacker. The event will feature a live safety demonstration by a former hand-to-hand combat instructor with the Israeli Defense Force.

Other highlights will include presentations on the topics of sexual assault prevention, types and causes of sexual assault, support for victims; legal rights for victims; and military sexual trauma.

1 in 3 women and 1 in 11 men will be the victims of sexual assault at least once in their lifetime.

It is estimated that there is one sexual assault every 90 seconds in the United States.

Learn how to protect yourself.

Both men and women are welcome to join. Featured guests will include: New York Self Defense Academy, NYPD: Special Victims Division, NYC Alliance Against Sexual Assault, Safe Horizon, Center Against Domestic Violence, Queens Law Associates,  Mount Sinai: SAVI - Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention Program and VA NY Harbor Healthcare System.
