Vice
President Joe Biden spoke today with Ukrainian President Petro
Poroshenko. The two leaders agreed on the importance of making progress
on the security and political
aspects of the Minsk agreements, and expressed serious concern about
the worsening security situation in eastern Ukraine. The leaders also
discussed the political situation in Ukraine, agreeing that it is
essential for Ukraine to continue to take action to
root out corruption and implement reforms. The Vice President urged
the governing coalition to quickly establish unity to allow Ukraine to
move forward with reforms, in line with the commitments in its IMF
program.
