On Thursday, December 10, 2015, the President signed into law:
S.
1177, the “Every Student Succeeds Act,” which amends and reauthorizes
the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 by, among other
provisions: (1) requiring
States to submit accountability plans identifying achievement goals and
school evaluation methods; (2) requiring States to intervene in
under-performing schools; (3) creating pilot and demonstration programs
for new assessment methods and funding allocations;
(4) establishing grant programs that support education innovation,
comprehensive services in low-income neighborhoods, and preschool
quality and access; and (5) reauthorizing and amending programs for
teacher training, Native American education, homeless student
assistance, and Federally-connected students.
