Death Toll at Least 130 in Air Strike on Wedding in Yemen

The death toll from an air strike on the wedding party in the south west of Yemen has now risen to at least 130 the United Nations and medics say.

The Saudi led coalition has vehemently denied responsibility for the action which struck where a man linked to the Houthi rebel movement was celebrating his marriage. Most of the dead were women and children.

“We heard the planes in the sky coming and then they struck. Three people were killed. Then the planes came back again and struck directly on the house where the wedding party with the women were, only the women,” explained one eyewitness while another added: “They struck a wedding, that was not a strategic target, there were only people celebrating a wedding, women and children. King Salman, I am asking you why this air strike?”

The United Nations condemned “the disregard shown by all sides for human life” in Yemen. The UN believes the conflict has left close to 20 million of the population in need of some form of aid.

Earlier in the week the Saudis delivered more then 4,500 tonnes of food and medical supplies.
