Bishop Terry Angel Mason: Miracle on Grape Street

How One Man Triumphed Over AIDS, Cancer and Homophobia

On May 18, Bishop Terry Angel Mason shared his story of "resolve and resurrection" with members of the San Diego community during a series of speaking events.

Mason revealed how his profound love for God and indomitable spirit helped him overcome cancer, full-blown AIDS, and homophobia.

"I'm still here today because of the goodness, grace and mercy of God. That is a fact," said Mason.

"God brought me through extremely difficult periods, and those experiences helped make me a much stronger person. Now, I'm traveling the country and doing what God wants me to do, which is to tell people that if you hold on to your faith and love for God, he will place people and things in your life to help turn your situation around, too."

The May 18 event was sponsored by the San Diego Neighborhood House Association and the San Diego Urban League.

Both organizations honored Mason for his literary achievements and tireless effort to fight AIDS and discrimination on a global scale.
