New York Event is Open to All Veterans and Spouses
Queens, NY – With the return of our
military men and women from overseas deployments, and while there is still
high unemployment in Queens and New York City, New York State Senator
Joseph Addabbo and Assemblyman Mike Miller have set a Veterans Job
Readiness Workshop for Friday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event will be held at The Shops at Atlas
Park, 8000 Cooper Avenue, Glendale, near ground floor front entrance. Free
parking will only be available in the south garage. The event is free
and open to all veterans and spouses only.
Some of the organizations and agencies that will
be participating in this job readiness workshop are: AARP Driver Safety;
Black Veterans for Social Justice, Inc.; Brooklyn Public Library; Chrysalis
Career Coaching; CNYCN; Empire Blue Cross/Blue Shield; FEDCAP; Jericho Project;
Mayor's Office of Veterans Affairs; Mercy College; Neighborhood Health
Providers; New York State Department of Labor; New York State Department of
Labor; New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance; NYS
Division of Veterans Affairs; NYS EPIC Program; Purzue; Queens Legal Services;
Queens Public Library; US Customs & Border Protection; US Department of
Veterans Affairs; and Vietnam Veterans of America - Chapter 32.
At the workshop, veterans and their spouses
will receive benefits information; lectures helpful to their job search; and a five-minute
resume review. If additional help is recommended, you will be able to make an
appointment to meet a job counselor at a later date.
Attendees must bring Veterans ID, such as a VA
ID, Active Military ID, DD 214, etc. Spouses should bring service member’s DD
214 and proof of marriage. Active duty spouses will have military dependent ID;
active duty won't have DD214s because they haven't been discharged. Dependent
ID should stand alone as proof of eligibility and marriage.

WorkPays NY – OTDA; 10:45 a.m - How to Successfully Work a Job Fair; 11:15 a.m.
- Interview Tips & Techniques; 12 p.m. -Transitioning from Military to
Civilian Life; 12:45 p.m. - Five-Minute Resume Evaluation Begins. Remember to
bring a resume.
