Congressman: "A Tireless Advocate for Our Community"

On Sunday, October 16, Rep. Joe Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx) celebrated Italian Heritage Month by paying tribute to the many contributions made by Italian-Americans across New York and throughout the country.

Rep. Crowley was joined by leaders from New York’s Italian-American community to honor the rich culture and history of the Italian heritage. During the event, Crowley honored special guest State Senator Joseph Addabbo, Jr., who represents New York’s 15th Senate District, for his leadership and service to the community.

“New York has a long, proud tradition of Italian-American leaders and figures, and Joe Addabbo carries the torch of this tradition,” said Rep. Crowley.

“A tireless advocate for our community and a public servant in every sense of the word, I am proud to honor Joe as this year’s honoree.”

"I am grateful to have been honored by Congressman Joe Crowley and to have received the Italian Heritage Award. Over a century ago, my grandparents came from Italy and instilled in their children two primary principles: the first being the importance of a loving family and the second, the value of a relentless work ethic. It is these two principles that continue to guide me and my family today," said Addabbo.

"During this time of year around Columbus Day, we get to acknowledge and be thankful for the positive influences and contributions of Italian-Americans," Addabbo concluded.

Each year, Americans celebrate Italian Heritage Month during the month of October to pay tribute to the history, culture and contributions of Italian Americans.

“New York is home to a proud and vibrant Italian-American community and this month is a time to celebrate the many contributions Italian-Americans have made to both our city and our country. I am proud to join New York’s Italian-American community and my constituents in celebrating Italian Heritage Month,” added Crowley.

Congressman Crowley is a seven-term representative from the 7th Congressional District of New York, which includes sections of Queens and the Bronx. He is a member of the Ways and Means Committee and is a chief deputy whip in the Democratic leadership of the U.S. House of Representatives.
