'Jobs Express' Now Lists 52,000 Job Openings Throughout NY

Website Has Been Visited Over 200,000 Times in First Four Weeks

Governor Andrew Cuomo today announced that "Jobs Express," the state's new website designed to help New Yorkers who are seeking employment, now lists 52,000 job openings and has introduced improved search tools.

In the past four weeks since the launch of Jobs Express, the website has been visited over 200,000 times and has listed an additional 10,000 job openings.

Governor Cuomo also announced that General Electric (GE) will fill 100 positions at its manufacturing facility in the Capital Region. These job openings are all listed on Jobs Express. There will be two job fairs at the One-Stop Career Centers in Albany and Schenectady this week to help fill these positions.

At the job fairs, New Yorkers will have the opportunity to speak with GE Energy representatives about the open positions, which include entry-level production, plumber/fitters, and skilled trades like electricians, mechanics, and utilities generalists.

The New York State Department of Labor will be assisting GE with recruitment, a free service it offers to any company looking to hire in New York.

"With over 200,000 site visits in under one month, the new Jobs Express website is already connecting New Yorkers looking for employment with businesses looking to hire," Governor Cuomo said.

"I am pleased that companies like GE are discovering the value of Jobs Express and I encourage all New Yorkers seeking a job to take advantage of it."

The first job fair will take place on Wednesday, November 30, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the Schenectady County One-Stop Career Center, 797 Broadway in Schenectady. The second will be held on Thursday, December 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Albany County One-Stop Career Center, 175 Central Avenue in Albany.

Jobs Express now allows users to customize their job search, expand the geographical region of their search, and find any and all jobs they want in the New York State Job Bank.

Jobs Express sorts the thousands of jobs listed on the state job bank by region to help job seekers evaluate what industries are growing in their area and find out what opportunities are available in specific economic sectors.

For further employment resources, there are 88 public One-Stop Career Centers across New York where job seekers can go for additional free services.

Addabbo: 'In This Difficult Economy, It Is Crucial for Them to Have All the Resources Available'

Senator Urges Residents to Consider "Jobs Express" to Seek Employment

Queens, NY – New York State Senator Joe Addabbo (D-Queens), who serves on the Senate’s Labor and on its Civil Service & Pensions Committees, is pleased to announce the construction and recent launch of an innovative new Web site designed to give New Yorkers adequate resources to find employment.

Through the leadership of Governor Cuomo, this Web site takes thousands of jobs listed throughout the New York State Jobs Bank and sorts them by region to help job seekers evaluate what positions are available in their area.

“My constituents are some of the hardest-working people in the State,” said Senator Addabbo.

“In this difficult economy, it’s crucial for them to have all the resources available to not only find immediate employment, but to find long-term careers.”
Last month, Addabbo and his staff held their 4th Job Fair in the district, where roughly 3,000 people turned out to explore opportunities with over 100 employers.
The Senator states that his Facebook page continues to offer local job opportunities with private, public and nonprofit sector employers, as his office becomes aware of them.
Senator Addabbo, in conjunction with the Vietnam Veterans of America-Chapter 32, also is planning a Veterans Job Fair for May 2012, at a time when thousands of brave men and women will have returned from deployments in the Middle East.

The Jobs Express Web site features easy-to-use drop-down menus that display useful information for job seekers all on one, concise page.

The site also includes videos that offer advice to job seekers and an electronic job-matching tool known as "Skills Matching and Referral Technology" (SMART), which generates job leads from resumes. The Labor Department will update the job listings on a daily basis.

Currently, the New York State Job Bank has 42,370 job openings: Capital District - 2,726; Central New York - 2,373; Finger Lakes - 2,228; Hudson Valley - 1,681; Long Island - 5,973; Mohawk Valley - 628; New York City - 22,684; North Country - 454; Southern Tier - 924; and Western New York - 2,699.

"This Jobs Express Web site saves job seekers time and aggravation in a process that has traditionally been a long and painful one. I praise Governor Cuomo for creating such an innovative and useful way to put New Yorkers back to work,” concluded Addabbo.

For further employment resources, there are 88 public One-Stop Career Centers across New York where job seekers can go for additional free services.
