A Message to Those Proclaiming 'Hatred' for the Media

In Memoriam: The five journalists killed at the Capital Gazette.

More and more people are proclaiming they hate "the media", and this news site is done with it! The following is addressed to anyone that has expressed disdain for those working in the field of journalism.

From The G-Man has publicly stated that many in the industry are doing a piss-poor job of presenting and upholding quality journalism. However, it also cautioned people against making generalizations about "the media". Associated Press, ProPublica, Reuters, The Intercept and others, including independent news sources like this one, continue to receive praise and recognition for stellar news coverage and sticking to the facts. They, nor From The G-Man, don't deserve to be judged by the actions of news organizations, many of which are run by multi-billion dollar corporations, that have forsaken real journalism for personal or political agendas, sensationalism, ratings and/or profit. There's an enormous difference between corporate and independent media, and many in this country are starting to figure that out. Thus, don't paint all reporters/journalists with such a broad brush. Be fair and take other factors into consideration before offering a generalization.

Again, you have every right to take issue with how certain issues are covered or presented. Just be careful when you say "the media" because that's a generalization. Hitler made generalizations about Jews, and you know how that ended. Yes. Many news outlets are dispensing false information, but a growing number of reporters and journalists are being beaten, jailed, murdered, raped, threatened and tortured for exposing corruption and the truth. It's funny how no one ever mentions abused or murdered reporters/journalists when they attack or proclaim how much they hate "the media".

With regard to "the media" blowing racial issues out of proportion, Jews that are being physically/verbally attacked and killed all across the country would strongly disagree, as would many Black people whose names have mysteriously been removed from the voter rolls, and couples that have been denied jobs and housing solely because they're members of the LGBTQIA community. News reports about these incidents should not be regarded as "overblown". They are factual and tragic events that are deserving of news coverage. If reporters/journalists don't tell their stories, who will?

The threat posed by white supremacy and white nationalism is real. Moreover, just because you and those you associate with aren't bearing witness to injustices, doesn't mean they aren't happening. If sources, from the highest levels of government to the five boroughs of New York City, continue to submit irrefutable evidence to this site and others in effort to expose corruption and wrongdoing, which often involves mistreatment of a group or individual based on race, that is a clear indication that race remains a serious issue in this country. The horror or Flint, Michigan, and the gross disparity in sentencing in the criminal justice system continue to prove that.

Finally, the purpose this news site, and others dedicated to upholding ethics, honor and integrity in journalism, is to gather the facts, ensure that all subjects have been properly vetted, obtain irrefutable evidence, and present it to the public so people can draw their own conclusions. The role of journalism is not to convince anyone of anything. Its only role is to provide information based on credible sources and extensive investigation and/or research. If you really want a barometer to judge journalists, news outlets and reporters by, this site suggests you keep the previous sentence in mind.
