New York, NY - Civil rights leader Rev. Al Sharpton spoke to
the mother of Stephon Clark, the unarmed young man who was killed by Sacramento police officers while holding his cell phone on Sunday.
He pledged support to Sequette Clark and her son’s family and said he
will be in California within the next week to ensure he has a proper
burial and to aid in the fight for justice.
According
to Rev. Sharpton: “It is an atrocity that an unarmed young man was shot
at twenty times in his own backyard and shows the urgent need in these
times for
intervention against police misconduct. We will call for a complete and
thorough investigation into this young man’s death.”
The
family of Stephon Clark has been communicating with NAN California
senior leadership, Rev. K.W. Tullos and Rev Shane Harris about next
steps in the pursuit of
justice.
