City Council members are pressing for answers on the NYPD’s involvement in the arrest of a prominent immigrant rights activist.
After ICE agents detained Ravi Ragbir
for deportation earlier this month — sparking protests and arrests —
Councilmen Ritchie Torres and Carlos Menchaca wrote to NYPD Commissioner
James O’Neill demanding that he release more information about how
police dealt with the incident.
“We are gravely concerned about the nature of the NYPD’s response to
the demonstration,” wrote Torres (D-Bronx), chairman of the Oversight
and Investigations Committee, and Menchaca (D-Brooklyn), chairman of the
Immigration Committee.
