Disgraced Donor Lays Out Explosive Testimony in City Corruption Trial

By Laura Nahmias

Disgraced de Blasio donor and real estate executive Jona Rechnitz delivered explosive testimony Thursday during the trial of union leader Norman Seabrook, providing previously unknown details of his dealings with some of the city’s most powerful officials.

Seabrook is one of a dozen police and political officials Rechnitz said he developed close and mutually beneficial relations with over the past decade. Among those in Rechnitz’s immediate orbit, according to his own telling, were Mayor Bill de Blasio, de Blasio's top fundraiser Ross Offinger, Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, a half-dozen high ranking police chiefs and captains, City Council members and at least one state senator, now Rep. Adriano Espaillat.

"I called Ross and told him I wanted him to get me in front of the people who could make decisions," Rechnitz said, echoing similar conversations with a litany of public officials.
