Four local and state officials were arrested in Manhattan for
disorderly conduct Tuesday morning at a rally calling for a national $15
minimum wage.
The rally began at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, as several hundred fast food
workers, Uber and taxi drivers, and union members marched from Zuccotti
Park to a nearby McDonald’s as part of the National Day of Action for
the Fight for $15.
City Council Members Mark Levine, Antonio Reynoso, and Brad Lander,
along with State Assemblymember Francisco Moya and a small group of the
protesters, were arrested around 7 a.m. after sitting in the street and
refusing to leave.
New York passed a $15 minimum wage earlier this year
(with different timelines and formulas for different areas of the
state), and the group gathered at the rally cheered the steps New York
has taken and called for a national $15 minimum wage.
