Even on his deathbed, the Rev. Luis Serrano stayed in the blessing business.
The NYPD chaplain, upon noticing a nurse at his hospital was pregnant,
insisted — despite his own pain from pancreatic cancer — that he would
bless her child, Serrano’s sister recalled Sunday.
Serrano, 68, a longtime Pentecostal pastor from the Bronx, by way of
Puerto Rico, died Saturday, after a 14-month battle with the disease.
The encounter with the nurse happened about a week before his death, at
Montefiore Medical Center’s Einstein Campus, Sonia Serrano said.
“If that doesn't tell you the type of man he was ... He had no movement from his neck down, but he did that," she said.
