Gov. Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio said Monday that another firearm-fueled tragedy during J’Ouvert demanded a national solution — tougher gun laws.
Cuomo noted that New York has some of the strongest gun laws in the
country — but they did nothing to prevent the deaths of Tyreke Borel,
18, and Tiarah Poyau, 22, both of Brooklyn.
“We have to stop the violence, stop the shootings, stop the killing and
we have to do something about the insanity of illegal guns in this
country,” Cuomo said. “A state cannot protect itself. We have the best
laws in the country and we can’t protect ourselves.”
