New York City’s homeless shelters are getting a security overhaul from the NYPD amid violence, according to reports.
NYPD officers
will retrain security at homeless shelters citywide and a team will
review the shelters “to develop an action plan,” officials told the Daily News.
Mayor de Blasio and Police Commissioner Bill Bratton are expected to announce the plan Tuesday, the same day that the head of the Homeless Services Department, Steve Banks, is set to announce more reforms at a City Council hearing.
