The Senate Special Committee on Aging held a hearing on the explosion in
the number of unwanted and often pressure-laden phone scams aimed at
U.S. seniors. These types of calls had increased, despite the enactment
of laws allowing consumers to opt out of unsolicited telephone marketing
calls. Witnesses included a telephone scam victim, one of the Federal
Trade Commission’s top marketing regulators, and a computer science and
networking expert.
