Queens, NY — The largest local
union in the country, 199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, is endorsing
Senator Joseph Addabbo Jr. for his third term representing New York Senate’s
15th district, citing his dedication and commitment to fighting for
working families and access to quality healthcare.
The union released the following statement,
which explains their reasons for backing Addabbo.
“We are proud to endorse Senator Addabbo for
re-election. He provides a much needed voice in Albany for the working people,
making sure they receive the benefits, rights, and services they need and
deserve. From ensuring a safer and healthier workplace to protect workers from
injuries on the job to fighting to increase the minimum wage, Senator Addabbo
is always working on our behalf. As healthcare workers, we deeply care for our
patients and their treatment. Senator Addabbo knows the importance of quality
and accessible healthcare and has fought to keep hospitals open and make
prescription drugs more affordable.”
“I am honored to have the support of 199
SEIU, as they represent millions of healthcare workers across the state,” said
Senator Addabbo.
“They do noble work and deserve to have a strong
voice in Albany. I look forward to continue fighting to ensure and protect the
rights of working families and working alongside 119 SEIU to expand the access
to quality healthcare for all families and individuals. No one should be denied
healthcare because they can’t afford it.”
Senator Addabbo has worked on behalf of working
families and individuals in Queens and throughout New York. He supports raising
the minimum wage, is a co-sponsor of the New York Healthy Workplace Act, and
fought against the repeal of the Wage Theft Prevention Act.
Addabbo has also co-sponsored
legislation to make sure there is safe staffing in health care facilities and
safe patient handling, fought against hospital closures, and voted to lower
heath care costs by making it harder for insurance companies to increase
premiums.
