The war between the Ugandan government and the rebel Lord's Resistance Army - led by the notorious Joseph Kony - devastated much of the country for 20 years. In 2006 Kony and the LRA fled to neighbouring countries, leaving people in Northern Uganda with the long task of recovery. Thousands there have been maimed or killed by landmines that were laid by both sides during the course of the country's civil war. But with international assistance, and the help of demining technology, officials hope Uganda will be free of mines later this year. Al Jazeera's Malcolm Webb reports from Lamwo district in Northern Uganda.
