Governor Andrew Cuomo has directed that flags on state government buildings be flown at half-staff on Friday, September 2 in honor of a Fort Drum soldier who died in Kandahar province, Afghanistan on August 25.
Army Private First Class Jesse W. Dietrich died of injuries sustained when insurgents attacked his unit using small arms fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment of the 10th Mountain Division's 3rd Brigade Combat Team stationed at Fort Drum. Private First Class Dietrich was from Venus, Texas.
"On behalf of all New Yorkers, I mourn the loss of Private First Class Dietrich," stated Governor Cuomo.
